Since 1895, ships have opted for the shortcut of around 250 nautical miles through the Kiel Canal instead of rounding Denmark to reach the Baltic Sea. But we long to explore the old sea routes and feel the breeze of the past as we sail from Bremerhaven to Kiel-Holtenau.
At a time when plans are being considered to widen the canal to accommodate modern mega-ships, we want to revive tradition. On board the Artemis, we will follow in the footsteps of the old windjammers. Our adventure begins in Bremerhaven and takes us out into the vast North Sea. Along the coast of Helgoland, we set our course northwards and head for the Skagerrak, from where we reach the Baltic Sea. In the Baltic Sea, we will decide whether to take the route through the Great Belt or the Little Belt to reach our destination. Possible ports of call on our journey are Helgoland, Skagen, Gothenburg, Aarhus, Copenhagen, Fredericia and Sønderborg.
Each harbour has its own stories and treasures waiting to be discovered. Experience the beauty of this historic route and enjoy the magic of the old sea routes while travelling with the Artemis. Join us on an adventure as we set sail and bring the past to life.
Note: Wind and weather conditions may significantly affect the voyage. If unforeseen circumstances make it necessary, changes may be made to the itinerary.
