Northern Lights & Lofoten
The islands of Lofoten are often called the most beautiful islands in the world. The diversity of the area is magnificent. Nature lovers can indulge themselves in this rugged landscape. With our expedition ship Antigua, you will travel through this amazing panorama and reach places that are normally hidden from tourists. During this trip you will be accompanied by a guide who knows the area well and will tell you a lot about the surroundings and history.
In winter, an extra dimension is added to this incomparable area: the Northern Lights, one of the most extraordinary natural phenomena on earth. Aurora Borealis, as the Northern Lights or Aurora Borealis is also called, is truly unique. Green, purple, blue, are the colours of the Northern Lights. With the Antigua, we look for places and harbours free of light pollution so that you have the best opportunities to view the Northern Lights in their full glory.
Another phenomenon in the Norwegian winter are the numerous sightings of whales. Nowhere else in the world are such large schools of whales seen than in northern Norway. They search for food and hunt in the magnificent Norwegian fjords. With the Antigua, we will navigate to places where we will view the world's largest mammals in a wildlife-friendly and special way.
The magical Northern Lights, the Lofoten Islands and large schools of whales are the focus of this winter voyage. Small programme changes are therefore possible to find the right places to view this natural beauty. This -in combination with the pristine natural area in the Arctic Ocean- makes this trip an unforgettable experience for you!
Tromsø where your Arctic adventure begins or as many say the "Paris of the North". Also invites you to visit a day before departure, because with a little luck you can see the Northern Lights dancing through the capital of the North Pole on the first evening. Our destination port will be Bodø, this mini-metropolis of the North is easy to reach by plane and therefore ideal as a destination port. The Lofoten Islands are also perfectly on the way from Tromsø to Bodø.
The Lofoten archipelago is characterised by its striking mountain peaks in combination with numerous small bays and beaches. The breathtaking natural landscape makes the islands a true pearl of Norway. The Lofoten archipelago is located north of the Arctic Circle in the Nordland region. The archipelago consists of 7 main islands separated by fjords and straits. Between the Lofoten Islands and the Norwegian mainland lies the Vestfjord. If you approach Lofoten by boat, the steep wall of Lofoten appears on the horizon - the Lofoten Wall. Spectacular!
There is so much more to say about Tromsø, Bodø and Lofoten and a thousand reasons why you should make this trip, but why not see for yourself?
