The first night you will sleep wonderfully with full anticipation of the first real day of sailing.
In the morning it's "Cast off!" We set course for our final destination, Kiel-Holtenau. We sail along the archipelago of Sweden. It belongs to the largest group of islands in Sweden. There are about 24,000 islands. Not all of which are inhabited, of course. Imagine the Artemis in the middle of this archipelago - pure relaxation! You will not soon forget the peace and untouched nature. On this sailing trip, you may pass one or two lighthouses. A very famous one stands at sea, the Almagrundet lighthouse. A nice stop can be the island of Gotland. The port of Visby is a town on the west coast of the Swedish island of Gotland in the Baltic Sea. Visby is a beautiful Hanseatic city. Visby is considered one of the best-preserved Hanseatic cities and has therefore been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1995. With its fifty watchtowers, gates, drawbridges and ramparts, the medieval city appears as defiant as if it still had to protect its wealth from the Hanseatic era from looters. After a visit to Visby, there are two different routes to continue our journey. One possibility is the strait of Kalmarsund.  Certainly beautiful to navigate. Here are the Swedish naval and fishing ports of Kalmar and Oskarshamn.  At the end of the waterways between Kalmar and the island of Öland is the port of Karlskrona. The remains of the former Karlskrona fortress are certainly worth seeing here. From here, two very special intermediate destinations are not far away. The first is Bornholm, a small Danish island whose landscape was shaped by the Ice Age. The rock carvings of Allinge-Sanvig are very famous here. And secondly Christiansø - 10 nautical miles or 18 km northeast of the town of Gudhjem on the island of Bornholm lies the small group of pea islands. A good 30 hectares of barren nature and the southernmost part of the Baltic archipelago. Consisting of the three rocky islands Christiansø, Frederiksø, Græsholm and some skerries and rocks, they are the easternmost point of Denmark. Christiansø, the largest of the islands and often the eponym of the entire archipelago, and Frederiksø are inhabited. Just under 100 people live there. The other small islands are used as bird sanctuaries. These two islands are really worth seeing. The ship continues on its course towards Germany, finally passing Fehmarn and Laboe before arriving at the port of destination, Holtenau. Passing large container ships coming out of the NOK.

Artemis

The triple masted barque Artemis is a beautiful example of maritime tradition. The ship was built in Norway in 1926 as a whaler. Then she served as a freighter transporting goods between Asia and South-America. Since 2001 the Artemis returned to sail in european waters, honouring the great maritime tradition of the Netherlands.

The same maritime character contiues inside the ship. The Artemis has a stylish timber paneled salon with a typical ship bar and 2nd salon above decks with lovely sea views. The 16 comfortable cabins are finished in mahogany. Each cabin is fitted out with a bunk bed and has an en  bathroom with toilet and shower.

The perfect sail characteristics of the ship in combination with the comfort and luxury on board make the Artemis much loved by our guests.
