When the Artemis sails out of Kiel on the summer evening of 10 July 2021, you literally and figuratively leave the ballast of a year full of corona behind you. The sunset over the Baltic Sea heralds the start of a new life: life at sea!
You can board in Kiel (Holtenau) in Germany from 16.00 hours. Kiel (Holtenau) is situated at the lock of the North Sea Canal (Kielercanal). This channel connects the North Sea with the Baltic Sea and is one of the busiest channels in the world. The Artemis is moored at the Tiessenkai with a view on the Kieler fjord. On board you will meet the crew and your fellow trainees. In the evening we cast off and sail t he Baltic Sea! The ship is in full operation 24 hours a day and you can participate in this system. The Artemis' enthusiastic crew will be happy to teach you the ins and outs of sailing!
The destination of the trip is the Swedish Gothenburg or the Danish Alborg. Both cities are situated on the Kattegat. The Kattegat is the seastreet between Sweden and Denmark and is part of the connection between the North Sea and the Baltic Sea. It is a beautiful and challenging sailing area. The name Kattegat comes from Dutch sailors and means 'narrow passage'. The name is used internationally, also in Scandinavian languages.
The west coast of Sweden is famous for its rugged coastline with thousands of islands. The Danish coast is no less impressive and enchanting with its beautiful sandy beaches. Throughout the centuries, the waters of the Kattegat have been sailed and the area has a rich history. Think of the Vikings and the mighty Hanseatic League from the Middle Ages.
The route to and from the Kattegat is via the Great Belt, the Little Belt and the Øresund. Depending on the wind, we will look for a suitable route. Possible harbours are Copenhagen, Middelfart, Sønderborg, Svendborg. But there are also countless beautiful anchorages along the route.
